The best months for a Brisbane wedding

February is the wettest month at 182 mm, with afternoon storms through summer. From June to September Brisbane averages 30 to 57 mm a month, which is why so many couples here pick a winter date.

04The night, moment by moment

Where the entertainment fits into your day

Most Brisbane couples book one main act for the dance floor and add smaller pieces around it. Here is where each one lands on the day and what it costs.

Ceremony

Live music for the walk down the aisle

A soloist or duo for the ceremony usually costs A$300 to A$700. At an outdoor Brisbane ceremony, ask who brings the speaker and the celebrant's mic, because wind and distance swallow vows.

Something to do while you are having photos

Lawn games, a roving magician or an acoustic set keep guests busy during the hour you are away with the photographer. A roving magician runs about A$300 to A$700 an hour.

Leave a gap for golden hour

In Brisbane the sun sets around 6:43 pm on 21 December and 5:03 pm on 21 June. Tell your DJ or MC so the formalities pause while you slip out for sunset photos.

First dance

First dance, then open the floor

Most DJs blend your first dance song into a big floor filler so guests join straight away. A band will play it live, so send them the song early in case they need to learn it.

05DJ, band or both

DJ or band for a Brisbane reception?

A DJ gives you any song and no breaks. A band gives you a show. A singer plus DJ, which a lot of acts now sell as one package, gives you live music over dinner and a DJ for the dance floor.

06Before you book

What to ask a Brisbane DJ or band

Get every answer in writing, then compare the quotes line by line. Two Brisbane acts with the same price can differ by an hour of music or a travel fee.

Example note

What does the price include?

Hours of playing time, early set-up, lighting, wireless mics and a planning meeting. Two quotes with the same headline price can differ by a whole hour of music.

Is GST included?

Some Brisbane prices on this page include GST and some add it on top, which is 10% on a A$1,500 package. Ask before you compare.

What happens if you are sick?

Ask whether they have a backup DJ or a dep musician, and what the contract says about cancellation and refunds.

Can we choose the songs?

Most acts send a planning form with must-play and do-not-play lists. Ask how they handle guest requests on the night.

Sparklers and fireworks in Queensland

Allowed: sparklers are unrestricted fireworks and need no licence. Display fireworks are for licensed professionals only. Business Queensland

Noise limits and finish times

Your venue's finish time, liquor licence and any sound limiter set the real rules. Ask the venue for them in writing and send them to your DJ or band before they quote overtime.

07The bit nobody books

Who photographs the dance floor after 10pm?

Most photographer packages end before the dance floor peaks, so the conga line, the dance-off and the sparkler exit end up on guests' phones. Those photos scatter across a dozen camera rolls unless you collect them on the night.

During the night
The morning after

A live slideshow on the reception screen

Guest photos appear on the screen or projector while the party is still going. Ask your DJ or venue for an HDMI input.

Photo missions with a leaderboard

Give guests small missions such as the best dance move or the oldest guest on the floor, and watch the leaderboard during the night.

An audio guestbook

Guests leave a short voice message from their phone, a nice extra between sets when the music is quiet.

FAQ

Brisbane wedding entertainment questions

Short answers on Brisbane DJ and band prices, booking and the local rules, from the sources on this page.

Famous Entertainment lists A$890 plus GST for four hours and A$1,290 plus GST for five. Explosive Entertainment lists A$1,395 for a DJ or A$1,895 with an MC, and G&M Event Group starts at A$1,395 for up to five hours (all checked October 2026).

A singer plays live sets through canapes and dinner, then a DJ set runs the dance floor. Steve Carlyle's Brisbane package The Evening covers six to seven hours for A$2,500 including GST.

On the numbers, yes. June to September average 22 to 26 degrees with 30 to 57 mm of rain a month, against 182 mm in February. Sunset is around 5:03 pm in June, so plan a reception that moves indoors or under lights early.

Queensland lists sparklers as unrestricted fireworks, so you do not need a licence to buy or use them. Display fireworks are for licensed professionals only, and your venue can still say no to sparklers, so check with them.

G&M Event Group lists Brisbane, Toowoomba, the Gold Coast, the Sunshine Coast and Northern NSW. Steve Carlyle charges a travel fee beyond 100 km. Get the travel cost written into the quote.

That comes down to the venue's finish time and liquor licence. Some acts set their own limit too: Steve Carlyle says his performances end by midnight. Ask both before you book overtime.
