What are wedding mad libs, and how do you play?
Wedding mad libs are fill-in-the-blank stories about the couple. One person asks the group for nouns, verbs, names and places without showing the story, then reads it aloud with those words dropped in. With the free game above, you pick a template, fill 15 or 16 blanks on a phone, then read, copy or share the story.
The format is older than most of your guests. Leonard Stern and Roger Price invented it in 1953 and published the first book in 1958 (Wikipedia), so nearly everyone at the table knows the rules already.

How do you play mad libs wedding vows?
Vow mad libs are the most requested version, and the game has them built in as The Vow Attempt. Guests supply the words, then the bride (or the couple) reads the vows out loud like it is the real ceremony.

How to run bridal shower mad libs with one phone
Printed shower mad libs need cards, pens and an answer key for every pair of guests. With the game, one reader and one phone cover the whole room. These five steps work for a shower, an engagement party or a bachelorette.

One person holds the phone and asks for the words. Everyone else only hears the prompt, never the story.

Collect the words without context
Ask for each word by its type: adjective, food, a relative, a song title. The less people know, the funnier the result.

The stories are funny for one night and then they disappear into handbags and bins. Three ways to keep them, from a shoebox to one shared album.
A card box on the table
Guests drop finished paper cards in a box next to the guest book. Simple, but the cards stay in one room and one box.
A keepsake scrapbook

Wedding mad libs etiquette: funny, not awkward
The stories are clean. The answers are where it goes wrong. The reader is the filter, so give them a few rules before the first round.
Do
- Read the room first. A shower with grandmothers is a different crowd than a bachelorette.
- Set one house rule out loud: words you would say in front of the flower girl.
- Let the reader skip any answer and ask for another one.
- Use first names only for real people, and only people who are in the room and in on it.
- Keep each round short. One story per table is plenty between courses.
Don't
- Use an ex as the answer for a name. It always lands badly.
- Pick body jokes or anything about weight, money or fertility.
- Read a story aloud before you have skimmed it yourself.
- Put a guest on the spot who does not want to read in public.
- Run it during speeches or the first dance. Save it for a lull.
