Villa wedding in the Tuscan hills, 140 guests from all over Europe. The album captures the whole atmosphere, the cypress trees, the golden light, the long tables in the garden. Our photographer gave us 300 perfect shots but Pix gave us 900 real moments. Both are precious but the candids are what we return to 🇮🇹
Couple compatibility test: how compatible are we?
Type both first names, pick your zodiac signs, then take turns answering the same 10 questions. You get a compatibility score, a couple title and a breakdown across communication, lifestyle, romance and adventure. Free, no sign-up, made for fun.
How compatible are you two, in three minutes?
You each answer the same 10 questions about mornings, conflict, money, love language, travel and the future. The test compares your answers in four categories (70% of the score), adds your zodiac pairing (20%) and a playful name number (10%), then gives you a score between 59 and 98 and a couple title. Treat it as a conversation starter, not a prediction.
Why not a prediction? A 2020 study of 11,196 couples found that how partners see the relationship itself explains far more of their happiness than matching personality traits do. So the best use of your score is the talk it starts.
- 1Type both first names and pick each partner's zodiac sign.
- 2Partner 1 answers all 10 questions, then hands over the phone.
- 3Partner 2 answers the same 10 questions without peeking.
- 4Read your score, the four category bars and your strengths, then copy the result to share.
The phone shows an illustrative result for example names, worked through the test's own formula: a best zodiac pair (92), a name number of 69 and the four category bars shown.

What goes into your compatibility score
Most compatibility calculators never say how they get their number. This one does. Every figure in this section comes straight from the scoring code behind the test above.
Your 10 answers are compared one by one. Each category starts at 60, matching answers add up to 30 more, and a small random bonus of up to 10 keeps every result a little different. The four category scores are then averaged.
Partner 1's sign is looked up against Partner 2's. A best pairing scores 92, a good one 80, a neutral one 65, a challenging one 50, and a pair the table does not list gets 60.
A playful number from the length of both first names, always between 65 and 94. Pure fun, and the smallest slice on purpose.
The total is rounded and then kept between 45 and 99. With the weights above, the real range is 59 to 98, so every couple lands on Growing Together or higher.
What each question asks, and what a match is worth
The four categories count equally, but they hold a different number of questions. So one matching answer is worth more in a small category than in a big one.
| # | Question | Category | What it shows | A match adds |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Are you a morning person or a night owl? | Lifestyle | Whose alarm wins, and when you get time together on weekdays | about 1.3 pts |
| 2 | How do you handle disagreements? | Communication | Talk now, take space or write it down first. The classic friction point | about 1.8 pts |
| 3 | Ideal weekend together? | Lifestyle | Outdoors, home, friends or a new restaurant | about 1.3 pts |
| 4 | What is your primary love language? | Romance | Which of the five love languages feels like love to each of you | about 2.6 pts |
| 5 | How do you approach planning? | Lifestyle | Lists, go with the flow, or plan the big things only | about 1.3 pts |
| 6 | Your approach to money? | Communication | Saver, spender or budget-with-treats. Worth a real talk | about 1.8 pts |
| 7 | Dream vacation style? | Adventure | Beach resort, backpacking, road trip or cultural deep dive | about 5.3 pts |
| 8 | At a party, you are most likely to... | Communication | Social energy: life of the party, deep talks or the snack table | about 1.8 pts |
| 9 | Cooking dinner together looks like... | Lifestyle | Team cooking, one cooks one chats, or takeout | about 1.3 pts |
| 10 | What matters most in your future together? | Romance | Family, career, travel or a calm, simple life | about 2.6 pts |
The travel question alone moves your score as much as all four lifestyle questions together.
Adventure has one question, so a match there fills the whole category. Lifestyle spreads the same weight over four.
A category gets 30 points for a full match, split across its questions. Your final score takes 70% of the average of the four categories. That gives about 5.3 points for the travel question, 2.6 for each romance question, 1.8 for each communication question and 1.3 for each lifestyle question.
Question 4 uses the five love languages from Dr. Gary Chapman, so it is a good one to talk through even when you match.
What your compatibility score means
Your score picks one of seven couple titles. Two of them cannot come up with the current scoring, which tells you something: this test is built to be kind.
| Score | Couple title | How often |
|---|---|---|
| 95 to 99 | Cosmic SoulmatesWritten in the stars | Rare. Needs a best zodiac pair and nearly every answer matching |
| 85 to 94 | Power CoupleUnstoppable together | Common when most answers match |
| 75 to 84 | Perfect MatchBetter together than apart | Common |
| 65 to 74 | Dynamic DuoComplementary forces | Common when many answers differ |
| 55 to 64 | Growing TogetherOpposites that attract | Possible, the floor is 59 |
| 45 to 54 | Adventure AwaitsDifferent but exciting | Not reachable with the current scoring |
| Below 45 | Unique SparkEvery love story is different | Not reachable, scores never drop below 45 |
It means you answered differently more often, nothing else. The Gottman Institute says every couple has lasting differences. Find your lowest bar and use the prompts below to talk about it.
What makes couples compatible, according to research
Online tests love to promise a verdict. Relationship research points somewhere else: knowing each other, and how you handle the differences you will always have.
The Gottman Institute says most recurring arguments come from lasting differences in personality or lifestyle needs. Happy couples still have them. They manage them instead of solving them.
How people judged the relationship itself (perceived partner commitment, appreciation, satisfaction) explained about 45% of current satisfaction. The partner's own judgments and either person's personality traits added little, and nothing predicted who would get happier or unhappier over time.
They run from easy ones like where your partner was born to harder ones like whether your partner has a secret ambition. Knowing those answers matters more than having the same answers.
Words of Affirmation, Quality Time, Receiving Gifts, Acts of Service and Physical Touch. The idea comes from marriage counselor Dr. Gary Chapman and his book The 5 Love Languages.
“From knowledge springs not only love, but the fortitude to weather marital storms.”
What does compatibility really mean?
A two-minute episode of the Gottman Institute's Small Things Often series asks whether you need shared interests, values or goals to be compatible, and why that is not the whole story. Good to watch right after you get your score.

Zodiac signs, the fun 20%
Lots of couples search for a zodiac compatibility calculator for marriage, so the test includes one. It stays at 20% for a reason: in a double-blind test published in Nature in 1985, astrologers did no better than chance at matching birth charts to personality profiles.

Every other pairing scores 80 (good), 65 (neutral) or a default 60 when the pair is not listed. The lookup starts from Partner 1's sign, so a few pairs change if you swap who goes first: Aries entered first with Cancer counts as challenging (50), while Cancer first with Aries counts as neutral (65). Astrology study: Carlson, A double-blind test of astrology, Nature, 1985.
Twelve questions to talk about, whatever your score

Compatibility test, couple quiz or a real assessment?
Three things get called a couple test online. They do different jobs, so here is which one fits what you want.
| This compatibility test | Couple quiz for guests | Counselor-led assessment | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Who plays | The two of you, taking turns on one phone | Your guests, on their own phones | The two of you, usually with a trained facilitator |
| What it gives you | A compatibility score, a couple title, 4 category bars and strength notes | A score per guest and a leaderboard of who knows you best | A detailed report on areas like conflict, money and family |
| Time | About 3 minutes for both of you | A few minutes per guest | A longer questionnaire, often with follow-up sessions |
| Cost | Free, no sign-up | Free, no sign-up | Usually paid, price set by the provider |
| Best for | Date night, a laugh, and a starting point for real talks | Engagement parties, showers and receptions | Couples who want a serious check before the wedding |
Good for
- A fun 3-minute date-night game
- Finding the topics you have never talked about
- Comparing love languages for the first time
- A shareable result for the group chat
- Opening a calm talk about money or conflict
Not for
- Deciding whether to get married
- Predicting whether a relationship will last
- Replacing premarital counseling
- Settling an argument about who is right
- Judging a relationship by a zodiac sign
Want guests to play instead? The couple quiz turns 10 questions about you into one link with a leaderboard. If something in your results worries you, a licensed couples counselor is the right next step, not another online test.

Five fun ways to use your score
A score is more fun when other people get to react to it. Here is where couples tend to bring it out.
Date night at home
Pour two glasses, take the test, then go through the conversation prompts above. The score is the excuse, the talk is the point.
Engagement party
Show your score on a sign or a slide and let guests guess it first. For a game guests can play, pair it with the couple quiz.
Make a couple quiz for guestsBridal shower or bachelorette
Have the couple take it live while friends call out their own guesses for each answer. Loud and quick.
More bridal shower gamesWedding website story
Add your couple title next to how you met. Copy Result gives you a short summary to paste in.
Do you need a wedding website?First anniversary retake
Take it again a year after the wedding and compare. Answers change as you live together, and that is the fun part.
Copy Result puts a short message on your clipboard with both names, your score, your couple title and a link to the test. Paste it into a text, a story or the group chat and dare your friends to beat it.

We thought about just doing a Google Drive folder. Glad we didn't because the album is properly lovely and nobody needed a Google account. My mate said it was the smoothest thing at the whole wedding which is either a compliment or a dig at my speech
Groom gang checking in. If youre a dude reading wedding app reviews (respect) just get this one. I spent more time researching bluetooth speakers for the after party than i did setting this up and it mattered way more
Couple Compatibility Test FAQ
How the score works, how accurate it is, and what to do with a high or a low result.
70% comes from your answers. Each of the four categories (communication, lifestyle, romance, adventure) starts at 60, matching answers add up to 30 more, and a random bonus of up to 10 is added, then the four are averaged equally. 20% comes from your zodiac pairing (92 best, 80 good, 65 neutral, 50 challenging) and 10% from a playful name-length number between 65 and 94. In practice every score lands between 59 and 98.
It is a game, not a clinical assessment. A 2020 study of 11,196 couples in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences found that how people judged their relationship explained far more of their satisfaction than personality traits, and nothing predicted change over time. Zodiac signs have no scientific support either. Use the score as a reason to talk, not as a verdict.
No. You pick each partner's zodiac sign from a list of 12, and that is all the astrology it uses. No birth date, birth time or location is asked for, and nothing you type is saved. The zodiac pairing makes up 20% of the score.
Yes. You take turns on one device. Partner 1 answers all 10 questions first, then Partner 2 answers the same 10. It works best if the second partner does not watch the first one answer.
Each category gets a small random bonus of up to 10 points, so the same answers can give a slightly different score. The zodiac part and the name part stay the same as long as you enter the same names and signs in the same order. Swapping who goes first can change the zodiac part for a few sign pairs.
Not much on its own. The lowest possible score is 59, and a lower score just means you answered differently on more questions. The Gottman Institute says 69% of relationship conflict is about perpetual problems that every couple has, so what matters is how you talk about your differences. Look at the lowest category bar and start the conversation there.
